“The Mind is shapely, so the art is shapely.” So sprach Jack Kerouac and thus is the ethos of the 4-piece original rock band known as cLoNe. cLoNe is an ill-defined group hailing from the perpetual wasteland known as Central Illinois. With their roots in Punk ethics and Metal/Alternative music stylings, CLoNe births a sound oddly defined as Buddha Rock…reminiscent of screamo acts like Thursday and Glassjaw, yet retaining moments of power pop, metal, stupid humor, and Sonic Youth-like postmodernity.
Founded by Sean Dowdy, Adam Strunk, and Luke Dowdy in August of 1999, cLoNe began as a group of idealistic teenagers wanting to immortalize a sound that was just itching to come out. After the torturing process of going through drummer after drummer, the three musketeers asked their good friend and fellow musician J.R. Baird to hop on a trap set and kick out the jams with them. Already an experienced guitar player, it took J.R. no time to give the band a unique and solid rhythm on the skins. Although cLoNe has been through trials and changes in its lineup, these four fukkers make up the present cLoNe….kickin’ ass and takin’ names but gettin’ sick of takin’ names.
After releasing a rough early demo “Plush Safe He Think” and a subsequent live album “Live at Barnfest”, cLoNe recorded an up-to-date demo in the summer of 2002 at Harrison Studios in Springfield, IL. “cLoNe demo #637″ was released on the band’s own independent label “Polyester Records” and is growing in popularity and success, receiving radio play from 92.7 WQLZ in Springfield, IL, 88.3 WQNA in Springfield, IL, and 90.7 WVKC in Galesburg, IL. Two tracks off the demo “pushing me (praGue)” and “even-steven” have been extremely successful on the local band top ten countdown on WQLZ’s Bandemoniun. Both tracks have consistently been on the top ten with “pushing me (praGue)” peaking at #5 and “even-steven” peaking at #2…the latter remaining on the countdown to the present day.
cLoNe is currently seeking management and playing shows all around the mid-west bringing their interesting, abstract, and diverse sound to all of its current and future fans. These four young superheroes are rawking the Central Illinois music scence…with plans to tear up shitt nationwide. Watch out for these guys folks…they’ve got hair on their ballz and they’re takin’ on all of the Biffs!
