Last Place
Last Place is a local 4-piece pop punk band from Clinton, IA. They’ve been together for over a year now. The band started out as a metal band, believe it or not. They finally realized that the metal thing just wasn’t quite what fit them, when they attended a NFG/Blink 182 concert, and knew that this is the kind of music they wanted to play. So they dropped their old guitarist, and went through a few until they came across their long time friend Reese Petersen. They found out that he played guitar, and decided to let him try out. He did so, and there was a chemistry from the beginning. They knew that this is who they needed to solidify the band. Their freshman year of high school, the band “Last Place” was now formed.
As the band was getting started, they practiced day in, day out, and started writing new songs. The chemistry started off so well that it almost seemed easy. They all had different styles, which brings an original sound to them. When people started finding out about the new band, many wanted to come to Pete’s basement, just to watch a practice. This was huge for the new band, to see that people actually cared enough to want to come watch a practice. Finally, they had a chance to play their first show. It was at the American Legion in Cedar Rapids, with a crowd of approximately 80 people. Last Place was the only punk band there, the rest were death metal. There was one punk fan in the entire crowd. This of course would make it hard on the band, yet somehow when they got on stage, it got all people into it, even the metal fans. Over the course of time, they’ve played several shows, including playing with local band 2nd Best, which helped get Last Place off to a good start. The members of Last Place would like to thank 2nd Best for all the help they’ve offered. Last Place is already headlining their own shows, in front of crowds in the hundreds. The success of the band is due to hard work, motivation and love for punk music in general.
