Martina McBride

Nashville, TN (November 11, 2003) – As Martina McBride walked onstage to pick up her third CMA Female Vocalist of the Year award Wednesday night, she also stepped into an elite group alongside Tammy Wynette, Loretta Lynn and Reba McEntire as the only women to ever receive three CMA Female Vocalist of the Year trophies. This is Martina’s second consecutive CMA Female Vocalist win. She also won in 1999.

In addition, she has won the ACM’s Top Female Vocalist award for the last two years in a row and is the American Music Award’s reigning Favorite Country Female. She’s in contention again this year for the AMA. The awards will be held on November 16.

Martina was nominated alongside Dolly Parton, Patty Loveless, Terri Clark and Alison Krauss for the CMA’s prize. “I am so honored to be in this category,” said McBride. “I don’t know why it is me up here, but I am very grateful and proud.” Close friend Faith Hill presented McBride with the award after McBride performed her latest single, “In My Daughter’s Eyes,” from her eighth RCA Records album Martina.

Adding to her monumental week, it was also announced earlier today that Martina has been certified GOLD in just over a month by the Recording Industry Association of America. Martina was released on September 30 and debuted at the #1 spot on the country charts selling more than 122,000 copies its first week in stores. This was Martina’s highest scanning debut of her career – more than doubling the sales of her last studio effort, Emotion which came out in 1999. Martina’s White Christmas CD was also certified PLATINUM this week.

With no time to rest on her laurels, Martina is currently busy rehearsing for her heralded Gillette Passion Venus Presents Martina McBride’s The Joy of Christmas tour which kicks off on November 28. The grand scale multi-media holiday concert will play through December 22 in cities across the nation. Plans are also underway for a major tour in 2004 which will be announced this week.
